Thirteen Year Old Playing Sports

I Get Frustrated Playing Volleyball

Are you a teenager and sometimes get frustrated and stressed about playing a sport? Well, if you have, then you should keep reading because I’ve gone through it and I can tell you how I feel frustrated sometimes.  I play volleyball and I’m on the TOP 13’s team. I am not gonna say that I’m the best player but I could say I’m pretty good.

I am competing for a spot but there is another girl who is a little better than me.   I know, with hard work, I can win the position. I have trouble sometimes with the skills. I get frustrated every single time and that brings me down and that frustration spreads to my team and makes them down.

When you make a mistake, don’t get frustrated. Think about the next play and shake it off. I’ve learned so much from many different people to do that and now I do it and it actually works.

When you Don’t Think you Made the Team!

If you have read any of my blogs, you know that my daughters are big into Volleyball.  They play pretty much year round and take on extra practices, when they can.  They truly love the sport!  At the end of my oldest daughter’s freshman year, she was asked to practice with the Varsity team.  These were exciting times.  She was able to travel to States with the team and watched them take home the championship.  She was so proud to be part of this and her High School Volleyball career was looking very promising.  She has done everything to she can to prepare.

The time has finally come and tryouts are this week.  Today, was the second day of tryouts and I get a call then a text from my husband, “have you talked to your daughter?”  Feeling excited, I explain I am in the middle of a meeting but tell me what’s happening.  I can’t possibly wait.  The text starts like this…Husband: She called me.  Me: And???  Husband: She doesn’t think she’ll make the varsity team.  Immediately my heart sank and my stomach hurt.  At first, I think it is a joke and I’m waiting for him to say he was just kidding.  The text continues on and he tells me who she thinks will make it based on how they split them up into teams.  She was crying.  How in the world am I supposed to concentrate on this meeting?  I feel terrible for her.  I have to be honest, I also feel very disappointed.  Again, as a mom I want to jump in and fix everything.
