4 Simple Tips to Enjoy a Stress-Free Vacation!
I’m excited to be heading out on vacation in a few days and I thought this was a perfect subject for a blog. I’m thinking all the thoughts going through my head must be going through others as they get ready to take some time off this summer. Is it actually possible to go away, disconnect and get the recharge that you need? How do you stay focused at work those last few days with everything you need to get accomplished? I’ve noticed the closer I get to vacation the more I realize how much I really need this vacation. The whole thing can be overwhelming. To help with this stressful period, I put together a few ideas that help me and can hopefully help you get ready for this time off. First things first, be overly prepared. This leaves time for last minute annoyances that pop up.. and they will.
- Get face time with your boss the week of – Let her know you’re confident everything will be watched over and you have assigned a backup. Letting your boss know you have your stuff covered makes everyone feel more satisfied.
- Empty your inbox – Don’t leave the office with a bunch of emails that need to be addressed. This will create stress you don’t need and you will make you feel obligated to open your computer at the first hot spot.
- Clean your office space – Come back to a clean desk that is inviting you to jump right back in. Nothing will be more depressing than coming back to a work space that looks like a hurricane hit it. Stress will immediate rush your body!
- Be fully packed 2 nights before – If you wait until the last minute, you may run out of the office the night before your vacation leaving things unfinished at work. The tension will be rolling through shoulders and it will be difficult to jump into vacation mode.
Some struggle with obsessing over work for the first couple of days of vacation, including myself. Doing all the prep work should help you get your mind in the right spot. If you must check emails during your vacation, do it during a time that has the least amount impact on your day – Mine is first thing in the morning. That way you get it out of the way early and you can enjoy the rest of your wonderful day. Plus, you feel you have accomplished something and know you took care of what you needed to address.
Remember, enjoy your time. You earned it and you deserve it. You need this! Recharging is important for your health, career, and peace of mind. RELAX!
